Panther Players to Present “Seussical the Musical, Jr.”
Medford, NJ- The Medford Panther Players, comprised of students from the Haines and Memorial Middle Schools, are preparing to present the whimsical, family friendly stage show “Seussical the Musical, Jr.” Based on more than 15 works of the immortal Dr. Seuss, many of his best-loved characters are woven together in this production as they collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper!
Hosted by the Cat in the Hat, the story of Horton the Elephant unfolds as he works to save the residents of Whoville, people so tiny that they live on a speck of dust. Despite being ridiculed by the other residents of the Jungle Nool, Horton stays steadfast in his duty. Along the way, we also enjoy the stories of Gertrude McFuzz and her one feather tail, the less than maternal Mayzie and her egg, and the difficulties the Mayor and his wife experience in parenting JoJo, their very imaginative child. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. An epic journey of Seuss-tastical proportions, the show’s message is summed up in the Dr. Seuss quote printed on every actor’s t-shirt, “There is no one alive who is youer than you!!!”
Veteran director and social studies teacher Michael Del Rossi leads this talented group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students as they bring the characters of Dr. Seuss to life. Del Rossi commented, “This is a really fun show that will appeal to everyone, especially families with younger children. The show’s message of standing up for what you believe in, and the importance of keeping your word are especially relevant; I felt strongly that this was a lesson that I wanted to share with our middle school students and the community.” As the audience ponders, “The thinks you can think,” children will enjoy witnessing some of their favorite storybook characters spring to life, while adults will be reminded of the creative power of imagination.
This year’s production will be performed at the Shawnee High School Auditorium located on Tabernacle Road in Medford. The show will have three matinee performances April 18, 19, and 25 at 2pm, and three evening performances April 18, 24, and 25 starting at 7pm.
